Navigating My Certifications

The Certification Portal (formerly Education Portal) is the new recommendation system used to manage certifications to lead NAMI Signature Programming for a NAMI State Organization or NAMI Affiliate. This is accessible by all with a MyNAMI account (my.nami.org), and those with training history can keep track of their new training requirements, certification history, and program resources.

This article is an overview of navigating the "My Certifications" section of the Certification Portal, where information and resources for completed certifications are housed.

After logging into certification portal, click on "My Certifications" on the left side of your screen.  If someone has already completed a certification, it will be listed here. If no certification has been completed yet, there will be no results listed.

A certification means that NAMI has officially approved someone to do something specific, such as lead a program or provide a service. It shows that the person has met the required training(s) or qualifications.  Past terms for certifications include credentials and records.  To receive a certification, a person must be recommended and then complete all of the requirements, which vary based on certification type.

Note: Anyone with a MyNAMI account who can log into my.nami.org can access the Certification Portal and the My Certifications page in full.  You can only see your own certifications on this page, regardless of your position. Alliance Staff members with certain permissions can see their affiliate or state organization's certifications in the Manage Certifications section. Click here to review Certification Records Access Levels to learn more.

View your list of certifications

Each certification you hold gets a row, sorted alphabetically. A single certification appears more than once when you hold the certification in more than one role.  For example, if a person has a program leader role and a state trainer role for In Our Own Voice, that certification will appear in two separate rows.

When a person holds the same certification at more than one organization, multiple state organizations or affiliates will be listed in the organization column with a dot separating the organization names.

Column

What it shows

Certification

The national program: Ending the Silence, In Our Own Voice, Family & Friends, Peer-to-Peer, etc.

Role

The role attached to your certification: Program Leader, State Trainer, National Trainer, ETS Lead Families, ETS Lead Students, and others

Organization

Each organization where your certification is recognized, i.e. the organization where you are qualified to lead a NAMI program.

Status

A green Active or a red Inactive pill shows the status of the national certification, not of the organization records listed under it (see note below)

The Status listed here is for the national certification, also known as the leader designation, not the local record(s) attached to it. If it is listed as inactive, reach out to your affiliate or state organization’s program coordinator. This is discussed in the Certification components below. Click here to review terminology and Certification Records 101.

Using filters

Four dropdown filters sit above the table: Certification, Role, Organization and Status. These filters can be used to more conveniently locate a certification record in your list.

Viewing the details of a certification

Each row has its own "Details" page with the same layout for each certification you hold. The next two sections will discuss what you will find in the details of each certification page.

Certification components

These are two examples of certifications:

A single certification is made up of two records: a national certification and a local certification at the sponsoring organization. You can have multiple local records associated with multiple affiliates. This can include a “State Virtual Affiliate" record shown above, which means you can host programs virtually across the state.

The National Certification (also known as leader designation in NAMI 360) is the record that says you hold the certification for this national program.

A Local Certification is a record that says you are certified at a specific organization.

Your Certification Role is the specific title you have for the type of training you received and must match between your National and Local Certification records. Roles determine what materials you have access to within a program. Examples include program leader, ETS Lead for various audiences, and state trainer. If you have a program leader role, you can‘t access materials meant for a state trainer.

The status pills

Every record has its own color-coded pill designating its activity. This setting is controlled by Alliance Staff with administrative permissions. Below is a description of the different pills.

Status

Color

What it means...

Active

Green

For the National Certification: The record is live, your training is valid at the national level, you can potentially lead this program in multiple locations, and you have access the digital materials for it.

For the Local Certification: The record is live and you can lead this program at this location and access the digital materials for it.

On Hold

Amber

The local record is live, but the national certification it depends on has been disabled. Reach out to your affiliate or state organization or the National Office at success@nami.org.

Inactive

Red

For the Local Certification: The record is switched off; your State Organization or Affiliate has removed your ability to conduct this program at this location, and you can no longer access the digital materials for it. This doesn't mean your training is invalidated at the national level. If you want to know more about this decision, reach out to your contact at this organization.

You cannot change a status from this page. If the status of your local records looks wrong, you must reach out to Alliance Staff Administrators at that organization. If you are an admin looking to change someone's status, you can click here to review how to Manage Certifications. If the status of your national certification looks wrong, affiliates or state organizations can request those changes by contacting success@nami.org.

At the bottom of the Details page are links related to the program. These resources require an active certification to access them. Each link opens in a new tab and takes you straight to the resource.

Digital materials

This links to a separate platform NAMINet, which houses all resources to assist individuals with their roles, and you are directed to the page meant for your program and role. This is where resources— including presenter responsibilities, technical assistance webinars, manuals, policies, and downloadable materials—live. You can explore NAMINet from its home page, but you will be denied access for certain pages if you don't have the relevant permissions.

If you get an Access Denied message for your program's page or any page on NAMINet that you should have access to, please reach out to success@nami.org.

Physical materials

The Physical Materials from the NAMI Store link opens the NAMI Store with the search term already filled in for that certification, so the printed manuals and participant materials are the first thing on the screen. You will need to coordinate with your state organization to order from the NAMI Store, as program related resources require codes and may have costs associated with them. Your organization may already have physical materials ready for you.

The store opens with the search term already applied — here Ending the Silence—returning that certification's printed materials. No typing required.

When something is missing or is incorrect

On your My Certifications page, if you see a message stating that "You currently have no certifications and no contact record" and you believe this is a mistake, please reach out to the success team at success@nami.org and CC any Alliance Staff you that may support in this.

Two other empty messages can show up:

  • “No links available for this certification.” The certification has no materials attached yet.
  • “No individual records found for this certification.” The page loaded, but no record came back with it.
  • If you believe these messages are an error, email success@nami.org.
